Pinjore Gardens is a 17th-century Mughal-style walled garden located in Pinjore village, 22 km from Chandigarh. Also known as Pinjor or Yadavindra Garden, it spans over 100 acres. The garden lies along the Chandigarh–Shimla Highway.
The garden was renamed as Yadavindra Gardens in honour of Maharajah Yadavindra Singh, the former King of the princely state of Patiala. He was also an Indian cricketer and played in the 1934 Test series.
Visit to Pinjore Gardens includes sprawling green lawns, tall fountains, orchards, a mini zoo, and the scenic splendour of the Shivalik hills. The location also serves as an ideal picnic spot for spending quality time with loved ones.
This garden was designed by Nawab Fadai Khan, a celebrated architect and one of the brothers of Emperor Aurangzeb. He planned the garden’s layout in the classical Charbagh style, with a central water channel.

Landscaping: The garden consists of seven terraces. The main entrance opens into the highest first terrace, which features a Mughal-style palace known as the Shish Mahal, accompanied by the romantic Hawa Mahal. The second terrace, with newly added arched doorways, houses the Rang Mahal.
The third terrace features cypress trees and flowerbeds leading to the dense orchards. The next terrace showcases the Jal Mahal, complete with a square fountain and seating areas. The following terrace features fountains and tree groves.
Besides the zoo, the gardens also include historic sites, a nursery, a Japanese Garden, and several picnic spots. After sunset, the entire garden is illuminated, creating a magical ambiance against the backdrop of the tall fountains.
Orchards: The garden is filled with fruit-bearing trees such as mango and litchi. Visitors can enjoy cool, shaded walks through the dense groves.
Festivals: From April to June, the garden comes alive with celebrations during the Baisakhi Festival and the annual Mango Festival. New mango varieties are showcased here by agricultural universities during the event.
