Kamakhya Temple, Assam
The temple commemorates Hindu Goddess Sati in her aspect of Kamakhya Devi. It is one of the 108 Shakti peeths. During the occasion of Navaratri a 3 day festival attracts thousands of pilgrims. This festival is known as Ambuvaci (Ameti). For the duration of this fertility festival, the Goddess is said to undergo her menstrual period. At this point of time, the temple is closed for three days. On the fourth day, great festivity is observed.

Monasteries of Sikkim
Sikkim has around 250 Buddhist monasteries making it a popular pilgrimage centre for Buddhism. Some of the popular ones are: Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre- most important religious sites contains some of the world's oldest and rarest manuscripts and religious artifacts; Pemayangtse Monastery- The main attraction of the monastery is a wooden sculpture showing the Maha Gurus; Enchay Monastery- about 200 years old it is believed that all the wishes are fulfilled here; Do Drul Chorten- The white Stupa has a revered golden Shikhara containing 108 prayer wheels which makes a highly religious place.

Tarakeshwar, West Bengal
The picturesque place is an important center of religious significance for Hindus. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The story goes that two brothers descended to Tarakeshwar from Ayodhya and unearthed a Shiv Lingam in the forest. Sensing some foul play, the local villagers forced one of the two brothers to hold hot iron in his hand. The brother comfortably passed the test seeing which the other brother unearthed the Siva Lingam in the forest. It was later revealed that the brother had a dream in which Lord Shiva instructed him to build the temple there.


Tarakeshwar, West Bengal

Bodhgaya, Bihar
A place where Lord Buddha left his foot steps nearly 2500 years ago, Bodhgaya is one of the most important and sacred Buddhist pilgrimage center in the world. It was here that Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The pilgrimage places of interest are Mahabodhi temple, Vajrasana, Bodhi tree, Ashoka's pillar and so on.
