Panipat Museum
This prominent attraction has been established by the Battle of Panipat Memorial Society. The museum showcases the city’s past and present, with a focus on the three historic battles that took place here. It aims to disseminate information about Haryana’s art and culture.
The museum houses an impressive collection of artefacts, inscriptions, carvings, weapons and armours belonging to great rulers like Sher Shah Suri, Babur and Akbar. Tomb of Ibrahim Lodi
Ibrahim Lodi, the Sultan of Delhi in 1517, was defeated and killed by Babur in the First Battle of Panipat. His grave is often mistaken for the Sheesh Gumbad in Delhi’s Lodi Gardens, but the actual tomb is located near Panipat.
This historically significant site features a simple rectangular structure raised on a podium of Lahori bricks. The British renovated it in 1886 and added an inscription. Travellers also often visit the Tomb of Bu-Ali-Shah Qalandar nearby.
Kala Amb
Sadashiv Rao Bhau, the great Maratha commander, directed his forces from Kala Amb during the Third Battle of Panipat. A black mango tree once marked the spot. Though the tree no longer exists, the site is commemorated by a pillar surrounded by iron fencing.
Kabuli Bagh Mosque
This is the first Mughal monument built in India, constructed by Babur to celebrate his victory over Ibrahim Lodi in the First Battle of Panipat. Later, when Humayun defeated Salem Shah near Panipat, he added a platform called the ‘Chabutra Fateh Mubarak.’ The garden and surrounding structures still stand and are named after Babur’s wife, Mussammat Kabuli Begum, giving the place its name — Kabuli Bagh.
