Damdama Lake: The Biggest Natural Lake of Haryana
Lakes are benevolent. They teach us the art of giving, adorn nature with their beauty, and provide shelter to birds and other wildlife. Beneath the surface lies a colorful world of fishes, while above, the lake reflects your own image.
You, the most beautiful of all!
Meet one such benevolent lake named Damdama Lake, located on the Gurgaon–Alwar road in Haryana. Covering nearly 3,000 acres, it is the largest natural lake in the state. Set against the rustic backdrop of the Aravalli Ranges, this lake has become one of the most popular picnic spots in the region.
It is believed that Damdama Lake formed when the British commissioned the construction of an earthen dam to harvest rainwater in 1947. Monsoon rains primarily feed the lake, which is held by the embankment.
Damdama Lake sightseeing offers visitors the chance to witness spectacular sunrises over the hills. More than 190 species of birds, both migratory and local, visit the lake throughout the year. Blue bulls, peacocks, waterfowl, cormorants, egrets, terns, and kingfishers are commonly spotted here.
